Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Global View Systems Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

NOTE:

Scope 1 - Emissions that are direct GHG emissions that a company generates while performing its business activities. This includes:

  • Generation of electricity, heat, or steam.

  • Manufacture or processing of chemicals and materials, as well as waste processing.

  • Transportation of materials, products, and waste using vehicles owned or controlled by the company.

  • Fugitive emissions, such as equipment leaks of gases or vapours from pressure-containing equipment.

Scope 2 - Emissions are the indirect emissions generated by the production of purchased energy. This includes:

  • Purchased electricity

  • Purchased heating

  • Purchased cooling

Scope 3 - Emissions are all other indirect emissions that occur in the value chain of a company and are not already included within Scope 2. These emissions are a consequence of the company’s business activities but occur from sources the company does not own or control. They account for approximately 88% of an average company’s emissions. Scope 3 emissions include the following:

  • Emissions generated in the company’s supply chain, such as extraction, production, and transportation of purchased materials and fuels.

  • Emissions generated from the use of sold products and services.

  • Emissions generated from waste disposal. This includes the disposal of waste generated both in operations and in the production of purchased materials and fuels, as well as disposal of sold products at the end of their life.

*Global View Systems Ltd may update or amend historic figures in the event better data becomes available, or the models we use to calculate or estimate certain emissions become more refined.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 94.4 CO2e by 2028. This is a reduction of 25%.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2023 baseline.

Completed carbon reduction initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or started during 2023:

We have insisted that any company car must be a hybrid model to impact C02 emissions.

  • In 2023 our Hull head office had an upgrade to LED spotlight fittings to replace replacing fluorescent strip light fittings. The majority of the building is on passive infrared sensors with approx. 15-minute timer settings to reduce unnecessary energy usage.

  • 50% reduction in printers across our office portfolio to reduce both paper and energy usage.

  • Printer Toner, packing, and general waste recycling are in place within the organisation.

  • We rolled out new laptops to most of our employees

  • We are operating a 3 month pilot to trial three stages of working categorisation to include:

    • Mobile 20% in the office

    • Hybrid 30% in the office

    • Fixed 90% in the office

  • We are operating a 3 month pilot to trial flexible working to enable flexible start and finish points ensuring staff are able to avoid the rush hour traffic were possible and therefore reduce Co2 emissions of vehicles in standing traffic.

  • Reduced business travel by air, rail, and road by introducing virtual / Remote (Teams/ Zoom) meetings for first-line access meetings.

  • We have built awareness amongst our workforce of the ROHS and WEEE directives to ensure we adhere to the standards.

  • We are implementing an engagement strategy to encourage our people to learn more and reduce their environmental impact. This includes internal communications forums and events focused on environmental awareness days

  • We continue to adhere to group governance by annual reporting aligned to company Tertial briefings to the Board and the Risk and Resilience Governance Committee

Planned Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Over the next five years we plan to implement further measures which will continue to drive down emissions. We are considering several initiatives and those listed below are some examples of areas we are discussing.

  • Based on the trial data we intend to roll out the three stages of working categorisation to include:

    • Mobile 20% in the office

    • Hybrid 30% in the office

    • Fixed 90% in the office

  • Based on the trial data we intend to enable flexible start and finish points ensuring staff are able to avoid the rush hour traffic were possible and therefore reduce Co2 emissions of vehicles in standing traffic.

  • Continuously work to collect the highest quality, primary data on our emissions to aid in reduction and progress measurement.

  • Invest in suspended office ceiling to reduce our energy consumption through increased insulation.

  • Work with key individuals on carbon reduction plans such as setting carbon budgets and working with our suppliers to reduce emissions to achieve net zero in line with the SBTi corporate net-zero standard.

  • Ensure Supply Chain audits are in place and we specifically request CSR confirmation and Carbon Reduction plan confirmation for all suppliers.

  • Look to procure 100% renewable electricity for HQ site.

  • Continue to reduce business travel by air, rail, and road through effective measurement and a sustainable travel policy.

  • Integrate climate consideration into our decision-making.

  • Continue to educate our people to reduce their carbon impact both in and outside of work

  • Transparently report on our environmental metrics both internally and externally through development of dashboards to manage our environmental data and allow for analysis.
